REAL MADRID AND ULATINA CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM
Six young athletes were chosen to represent our Real Madrid soccer program in a two-week trip to Spain. There they enjoyed workshops, meetings and shaking hands with their Costa Rican hero, Keylor Navas. Universidad Latina de Costa Rica succeeded in renovating the agreement with Real Madrid to continue and strengthen our signature social responsibility program, which reaches out to over 120 students from the community of Guararí, Heredia. Universidad Latina students from the schools of Psychology, Information technology, Dentistry, Optometry, Social Work and Law have come together to support this program of Social Responsibility and University Extension by working with the students and their families, estimated at over 600 persons reached.
SUMMER IN PARIS
Twelve students have received a full academic scholarship to study during a three-week summer session in ESCE Paris in the fields of International Commerce and Marketing. They will be traveling to France in July. For the first time, there is an ample representation of graduates receiving the benefit of this international certification program. Latina Alumni has begun to reach out to our graduates inviting them to participate in international academic travel, certificate programs with significant discounts, invitations to VIP areas of Laureate mega-events and other activities. We currently have over 30,000 alumni in our database.
OUR STUDENTS RECOGNIZED BY MICROSOFT
Universidad Latina de Costa Rica students Geannie Sharel Solis, Jazmín YuJing Guo and Elías Solis, of the school of Software Engineering, won first place in the Innovation category in the Imagine Cup of Microsoft. Their project, an application that allows the users of public transportation to know the exact location of the buses they await, in order to plan their time accordingly, also allows the bus drivers to alert potential passengers of delays, accidents or other inconveniences.
SUMMER IN BEIJING
Twelve students of Universidad Latina de Costa Rica have received full scholarships to participate in a three-week cultural and language program in Beijing, Popular Republic of China thanks to our new agreement with the Foundation for Cultural Exchange Chino-Costarricense. They will be accompanied by Head of International Office, Diosara Castillo, who also received a full scholarship.
FIRST LADY OF THE COSTA RICAN REVOLUTION
Universidad Latina de Costa Rica transmitted the world pre-premier of the documentary “First Lady of the Revolution” with a live round table discussion including Mrs. Henrietta Boggs, first lady during the 1948 revolution and beginning of the second republic of Costa Rica. The documentary, produced and directed by award winning director, Andrea Kalin of Spark Media, is also at the center of the first International Marketing Competition open to students of UAM and of U Latina. The winning team will receive a complete scholarship for a two-week international academic tour to Milan, Italy at the Laureate NABA Academy.
NEW BASKETBALL SEASON
Universidad Latina de Costa Rica opened this season with the first university Basketball team in the country to be included in First Division. All other teams in the league are professional municipal teams. Renowned coach Jimmy Garcia has accepted the challenge of working with our students in the dawn hours before they begin their full day of work and study.
The year 2016 has been off to a strong start and promises to create a 100% increase in opportunities for outbound international experiences for the students of both Universidad Latina de Costa Rica and UAM. Academic tours to Chile, Mexico, France, China, Italy, Panama and the United States are in various stages from completed planning stage.
After the accreditation of the Civil Engineering Career in both Heredia and San Pedro in November 2015, this year we have succeeded in the accreditation of our degrees in both Electronic and Civil Engineering. As a result, the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica is the private university with the most accredited majors.

The first of a series of Employers’ Breakfasts was help in April to strengthen the ties with the companies that offer major employment opportunities for our students. Alex Fernandez and Rosa Monge both spoke with the leaders of 24 major companies. The Laureate Professional Assessment program was presented as well.
